A Taste of Africa

Betty’s Kitchen African, in Bridgeport, CT, was opened on June 16, 2018, by most notably Betty Henderson. Although influenced originally from West African cuisine, more specifically her point of origin, Ghana, the restaurant itself strives to serve an assortment of authentic food from almost every nation in Africa. Henderson was reported saying in her grand opening video that her chefs, “Use old-world techniques to create an authentic flavor that you won’t find anywhere else in CT” (News 12 Staff). A notion further supported by the ending statement of "We are a family here in Betty's Kitchen," in their "Our Story" section. On their menu, one can expect to find traditional Ghanaian food they offer such as spiced Jollof Rice (Rice cooked in tomato sauce) or Waakye (rice and beans cooked with hibiscus leaves), as well as various other options that can provide "A Taste of Africa."
